Call to Action: Colorado & Denver Legislative Issues being Considered

Posted By: Troy Miller ICOR Blog & News,
ICOR needs your help to get eyes on two rental property-related legislative items on the State and Denver level. If you or your clients own rental property, help support ICOR by getting as many eyes on this as possible!
  1. All Colorado Rental Property Owners, House Bill HB21-1121 is going to committee tomorrow, 3/3/21, and needs your opposition:

    • The bill extends the notice period for nonpayment of rent from 10 days to 14 days

    • Restricting a Housing Provider from being able to increase rent rates more than once within a 12-month period, will strip the Housing Provider of their ability to negotiate amicable terms for all involved.  The result will be less flexibility and higher rent increases.  This provision of HB21-1121 will make it more difficult and more costly for tenants to transition.

    • If HB21-1121 passes, Colorado will have one of the nation's longest eviction processes (currently ranked 44th in the nation).  If a tenant is taking the proper measures to seek rental assistance, then adding extra days to the eviction processes at any stage should not be necessary.

(ICOR has provided a call to action letter).

  2. All Denver Rental Property Owners, Councilperson CdeBaca is looking to propose a bill to offer mandatory "Right to Counsel" for Residents:

Thank you for your help and support of our industry!
